My Final Doctor’s Visit After My Bunionectomy

By My Tailors Bunion On January 24, 2012 · 2 Comments · In Recovery

Friday was the day of my final post-surgery visit with my podiatrist. It has been 11 weeks and 2 days since my date of surgery. The visit was short, with only a quick inspection of the foot. He said my scar would heal and eventually become invisible. He said he was happy with the outcome and that my foot looked great.

Best Sneakers For A Tailor’s Bunion

Sneakers-tailors-bunion_Feature

Ok, the votes are in on the best sneakers.  After a lot of frustration in the larger chain shops, I asked my podiatrist for a list of the best sneakers. The shoe was to be either a “runner” or “cross-trainer,” not a “walker” type.  Here are my podiatrist’s recommendations:

Brooks – The Brooks Adrenaline Gts 11 was [...]

7 Week Check-Up After Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

By My Tailors Bunion On January 4, 2012 · 9 Comments · In Footwear, Recovery

WEEK 7

I had my seventh week check-up with my podiatrist.  He looked at my foot and reviewed the notes from his associate, whom I saw for my last check-up. I told him about the weakness in my fifth toe and he noted his associate recommended ESI therapy. He said he wasn’t sure why his associate recommended that and told [...]

Tailor'sBunionsFitflops_Feature2

After  having surgery 6 weeks ago and getting the doctor’s okay to wear shoes again, I have been trying with all my might to find a comfortable shoe.  I was running out of options and was eagerly waiting for my  FitFlop Mukluk Boot to arrive, which they did two days later as promised.  I rushed over to the box to try [...]

The Orthopedic Shoes Blues

On December 27, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
Tailors-Bunion_Blues

No one tells you this, but after you have bunion surgery it is not easy to find a pair of shoes that don’t hurt your feet.  I just took a trip to my local shoe store just to peruse the wide-widths.  As I was going past the mainstream/popular boots I felt very discouraged.  Though they were very cute with their [...]

A Visit With My Podiatrist’s Associate After Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On December 20, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

I have been recuperating from tailor’s bunionectomy for the past six weeks and I am now on my way for my next check-up.  My regular podiatrist was out of town, so I went to see his associate.  He was a helpful and personable doctor.

He said I could wear my EMU Boots, but I would have to use an [...]

Back To Shoes After Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On December 16, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

Once I got the approval from the doctor to wear shoes again after tailor’s bunion surgery, I couldn’t wait to go home and put on a shoe.  After all, I have been wearing a surgical shoe for six weeks.

I was told to wear my new orthotics for an hour before I took them off.  When I got home I [...]

Weekly Visits to the Podiatrist After Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On November 30, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

WEEK 1

About one week after the surgery I went in to see the doctor.  He took off all the bandages and dressings. He inspected my foot, cleaned it up with an iodine type medicine and re-bandaged it up.  He said everything looked good and he’d see me next week.

WEEK 2

Week two was the [...]

Going Home After My Tailors Bunion Surgery

On November 4, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

After completing surgery at the surgical center and resting in recovery, it was time to go home.  I went right to the couch and propped up my foot on the ottoman across from me. I had my tray next to me with my medications, water, and crackers. I started icing my foot right away and entertaining myself with the television. [...]

Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On November 2, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
Surgery-tailors-bunion_Feature

The morning of my surgery was pretty easy.  I did not eat or drink and I was told no make-up and no jewelry. Getting ready was a piece of cake. My husband and I dropped our child off at school and it was off to the surgical center.

Upon arriving they had all the paperwork filled out and [...]

What To Expect Before Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On November 1, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

Once I left the podiatrist’s office after having a third evaluation done on my tailor’s bunion, I felt good about it and decided to call the surgical coordinator to set-up the appointment.  The earliest was a month from that day, so I booked it.  A month is a long time to do research, ask questions and stew over it.

My [...]

Third Opinion Before Tailor’s Bunion Surgery

On October 25, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
MyTailorsBunion_3

After making the decision to pursue surgery, I scrolled through my insurance company’s directory under Podiatrist. I decided to see someone who was board certified and from an upscale town near my home. What can I say, I’m limited in my choices.

When I met the doctor he was very pleasant, in his late 40′s, early [...]

Second Opinion For My Tailor’s Bunion

On October 19, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
MyTailorsBunion_2

I decided it was time to go back to the podiatrist again, but at least this time around I did have health insurance! As soon as we started the consultation the doctor took X-rays of both feet (the first doctor from California never did that).  It turned out not only did I have tailor’s bunions [...]

The Enlargement of My Tailor’s Bunion

On October 16, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
Enlargment-My-tailors-bunion_Feature

Eventually I made my way to living on the East Coast. I was still all about the shoes, and not just because my husband loved to see me in heels, but because you just feel good when you are wearing cute shoes.

I started working at another really upscale salon. The owner was fashion forward, but in more of an artsy [...]

The Worst Shoes For Tailor’s Bunions

On October 5, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion

When I turned 26 years old, I decided on a career change.  I had been laid off from my job as a typist for an insurance inspection company, so I decided to become a hairdresser.

I had always thought I was stylish, until I got my first job as an assistant at a posh salon in Los Angeles.  [...]

My First Trip To The Podiatrist, For A Tailor’s Bunion!

On September 3, 2011 By My Tailors Bunion
My-tailors-bunion-trip-to-the-podatrist_Feature

It started at the tender age of 24. I noticed a bump that was located just underneath each pinkie toe on both feet. I never noticed them before, but for some reason they caught my eye. My boyfriend at that time (who is now my husband), had no idea what they were either. It was enough to make me call [...]
